Back Home

Thank you all so very much for your support and love during this difficult time with my family. The funeral was exactly as my grandpa would have wanted, so it made us smile! I cut my hair drastically off and dyed it reddish brown (they say never do anything drastically while mourning, but I love how it turned out!) We had a chance to visit with family while home for the funeral. I got to see my second cousin cheer (she is 6 years old and it is hilarious to watch little girls cheer. They are loud!!!) Here are some highlights from being home and from the trip home. We stopped at the Jim Beam bourbon plant, Abe Lincoln's birthplace and Dinosaur World. We didn't have time to visit dinosaur world because we were already behind on getting home!

My dog freaked out by the cheering girls. Look at his face. He is so not happy!!!
Snack Time!! Now Grissom is interested in being there!!

Jim Beam's nephew's dog, Spot. Grissom is so not loving the posing next to the statue dog!

Mom, Grissom and I in front of the monument of Abe Lincoln's birthplace. There is a cabin inside that would have been similar to Abe's cabin. They put the outside monument cover over the cabin to help with weathering of it. The cabin inside was 160 years old. While the cabin was not Abe's - the land was the family's for a short time!

The husband and I at the front of Dinosaur World with a triceratops behind us - my favorite dinosaur!

The National Parks have these passport books that you can buy. You can get stamps at every park, historical site, monuments etc that participate in this program. My husband is a huge history fan - hence the big smile. This was high excitement for him!

While it was so sad for my grandpa to pass away, it was what he wanted. He LOVED to travel, so it felt like he was with us at our stops on the way home! He enjoyed history too, so we felt it was a fitting way to come home - even if we didn't get in to my mom's until 4am!!! I will miss my grandpa so very much - but I have no doubt we will see each other again one day!!
