Back Home

Thank you all so very much for your support and love during this difficult time with my family. The funeral was exactly as my grandpa would have wanted, so it made us smile! I cut my hair drastically off and dyed it reddish brown (they say never do anything drastically while mourning, but I love how it turned out!) We had a chance to visit with family while home for the funeral. I got to see my second cousin cheer (she is 6 years old and it is hilarious to watch little girls cheer. They are loud!!!) Here are some highlights from being home and from the trip home. We stopped at the Jim Beam bourbon plant, Abe Lincoln's birthplace and Dinosaur World. We didn't have time to visit dinosaur world because we were already behind on getting home!

My dog freaked out by the cheering girls. Look at his face. He is so not happy!!!
Snack Time!! Now Grissom is interested in being there!!

Jim Beam's nephew's dog, Spot. Grissom is so not loving the posing next to the statue dog!

Mom, Grissom and I in front of the monument of Abe Lincoln's birthplace. There is a cabin inside that would have been similar to Abe's cabin. They put the outside monument cover over the cabin to help with weathering of it. The cabin inside was 160 years old. While the cabin was not Abe's - the land was the family's for a short time!

The husband and I at the front of Dinosaur World with a triceratops behind us - my favorite dinosaur!

The National Parks have these passport books that you can buy. You can get stamps at every park, historical site, monuments etc that participate in this program. My husband is a huge history fan - hence the big smile. This was high excitement for him!

While it was so sad for my grandpa to pass away, it was what he wanted. He LOVED to travel, so it felt like he was with us at our stops on the way home! He enjoyed history too, so we felt it was a fitting way to come home - even if we didn't get in to my mom's until 4am!!! I will miss my grandpa so very much - but I have no doubt we will see each other again one day!!

Sadness

Sadly, my grandpa passed away yesterday. I am heading home for the funeral today. I will be on and off the internet each day, so I may be out of pocket for a couple of days.

Catching Up On Awesome Deliveries

I am so behind on posting all of the goodies I have received lately. So here we go...... grab a snack, it might take a few moments!!

APRONS

I received this apron for a Halloween Swap I was in:

What is funny is that I had bought the owl fabric awhile back for myself but didn't know what to do with it. Then I get this apron with the same fabric. Too funny!

FLIRTY APRON SWAP

One of my dream vacations was England. My partner made me an apron like the English countryside with green and roses.

I know..... what a SWEET package. I am so lucky!

3. Purchase a craft book and mail to your partner (off of a wish list from your partner)

4. Partner's wish list (make an item off of a wish list from your partner)

5. Make Christmas ornaments

6. Buy 2 yards from a partner's wish list and mail

Voting closes on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19th. Get the word out on your blog and be entered to win a yard of fabric!!! Make sure and add a comment on this post if you add this to your blog so I can enter you to win a yard of fabric.

My husband is a wonderful man!!

Remember that awesome quilt I was obsessing over? Let me remind you........

My husband turned in some of his old games and a game system that he hasn't played for awhile, and used the money to buy me the quilt kit from A Quilt Is Nice. How awesome is that? He could have used that money to buy some books for himself or whatever, but he gave it for me. Ladies, that is one awesome husband!!!

Sorry Ladies. He is spoken for!!

And the WINNER is.........

Aunt Pitty Pat's!!!! How fantastic! I can't thank you enough for helping me spread the word about Breast Cancer Awareness. If you didn't win the apron, you did help someone win by spreading the word about mammograms and breast cancer. Thank you!

I want to make a quilt like this!!

I am not much of a quilt maker - I think because I have to see some major progress when I make my projects. Patience is not my best virtue!! I have started a easy quilt and I will share that in just a moment. As I have been perusing quilts on different craft blogs, I stumbled upon this one:

I just can't stop staring at this quilt and all I want to do is grab a great book and spread this quilt out in the park and just read on a sunny day. To see more phenomenal quilts - visit this craft blog: A Quilt Is Nice.

I got a great example of an easy type of quilt - kind of a beginners step to assembling a quilt. I follow Anna Maria Horner's Website and she had this great quilt she made for her daughter. Check out this cute quilt:

So to add more into this blog, I LOVE Heather Bailey fabrics and chose this bright happy one for my quilt to make like Anna Maria did. You can see that I have stitched around the flowers, but it may be harder to see I stitched around the big design in the middle. I plan to stitch around my other big ones a bit further out so you can see it better.

I can't wait to finish this quilt and use it!! It is so bright and happy. It may take me until the end of the year or beginning of the year to complete this quilt, but it is going to be so great in the spring time!!!
